Back to business: 5 simple marketing jobs to sort before Q4
September always feels like a bit of a reset. With a holiday in September and a few nice weekends away in August, it’s back to business. It feels like New year 😉
October is just around the corner.
For small businesses, that also means Q4 is nearly here, and with it comes the final push before Christmas, year-end targets and all those jobs you promised yourself you’d get around to “after the summer”.
The good news? You don’t need to overhaul your marketing completely.
A few simple updates now can make the next few months feel much more organised.
Here are five things worth sorting before Q4 begins.
1. Give your website a quick health check
When was the last time you properly looked through your own website?
Not just the homepage. Actually click through it as if you were a potential customer.
Check:
- Are your services still accurate?
- Are your prices or packages up to date?
- Are there old team members, events or offers still showing?
- Do all your links and contact forms work?
- Is it obvious what you want people to do next?
Websites have a habit of quietly becoming outdated while everyone is busy doing the actual work.
You don’t necessarily need a redesign. Sometimes a few small changes to wording, images, links or calls to action can make a big difference.
2. Look at what content has actually worked
Before planning loads of new content for October, November, and December, look at what people have already responded to.
Which posts got the most views?
Which videos got comments, shares or enquiries?
Which email subject lines got people opening?
Which blogs are still bringing people to your website?
You don’t need to reinvent the wheel every month.
If something worked, use it again.
Turn a blog into a LinkedIn post. Turn a video into several short clips. Turn a customer question into a social post. Update an older article instead of starting from scratch.
Good marketing is often about getting more mileage from what you already have.
3. Plan October to December now
You don’t need a complicated 40-page content strategy.
A simple plan is enough.
Think about:
- Important dates for your business
- Seasonal campaigns
- Events
- Offers or launches
- Christmas opening hours
- January promotions
- Emails you want to send
- Content you’ll need in advance
Even having a rough monthly theme can stop that familiar panic of wondering what to post on a Tuesday morning.
And the earlier you plan, the easier it is to create things properly rather than rushing them at the last minute.
4. Update the places people find you
Your website isn’t the only place customers come across your business.
Have a quick look at your:
- Google Business Profile
- LinkedIn company page
- Instagram and Facebook bios
- Linktree / link in bio
- Google Ads / Meta /Facebook Ads / TikTok Ads
- Directory listings
- Email signatures
- Online booking links
Check your opening hours, contact details, website links, services and descriptions.
It sounds incredibly basic, but incorrect information can lose you an enquiry before you even know someone was interested.
5. Clear the marketing jobs that have been hanging around forever
You know the ones.
“Need to update the website.”
“Need to start sending newsletters again.”
“Need to sort out that landing page.”
“Need to upload those blogs.”
“Need to schedule some posts.”
“Need to set up that email automation.”
They sit on the list because they’re never quite urgent enough to tackle today.
But eventually, twenty tiny marketing jobs become one enormous marketing headache.
So before Q4 starts, pick three things you’ve been putting off and get them sorted.
Or hand them over to someone else.
That works too.
Keep it simple
Marketing doesn’t always need a huge campaign or complicated strategy.
Often, the most useful thing you can do is make sure the basics are working, your content is being reused properly and the jobs that keep slipping down the list are finally getting done.
A little bit of organisation now can make October, November and December much easier.
And if your marketing to-do list is currently longer than your arm, that’s exactly the kind of thing I help businesses with at Sumodi.
From content and blogs to website updates, social scheduling, email marketing, landing pages, research and all those fiddly digital jobs that never seem to get done, I can help you get them off your list.
